The Philadelphia Monster Ball
The Philadelphia Monster Ball
Rising from the undead ashes of The Philly Zombie Prom, host DJ Robert Drake has opened the doors to monsters from ALL walks of life! This October he will debut THE PHILADELPHIA MONSTER BALL – Saturday October 21 at The Trocadero! A party where you can come as ANY monster you want … it could be your interpretation of a classic monster we all know and love or perhaps a monster creation from the deep recesses of your mind! The evening will feature a Monster Costume Contest – with celebrity judges and prizes for some of the more creative monsters of the night .. plus a night of live music from The Striptease Orchestra and – of course – lots of dancing!

(and yes, if you want to come as a zombie, that’s cool too!)
DJ Robert Drake as your host & DJ for the evening
DJ Robert Drake began spinning the new wave sounds when they were NEW wave sounds , working in various underground clubs in Philadelphia during the gritty era of 1981-1990. Since 2003, he’s shaped Philly’s nightlife scene by introducing the genre to a whole new generation of ears with his monthly Sex Dwarf New Wave Dance party. Drake has become known as Philly’s Retro DJ – so expect a lot of spooky throwback tracks!
Live performance from The Striptease Orchestra with special guests
Formed to back-up Philadelphia’s international award winning Neo-Burlesque troupe The Peek-A-Boo Revue, The Striptease Orchestra has taken on a life of its own and in 2013 started to perform outside the context of the official Peek-A-Boo shows. It is the mission of The Striptease Orchestra to not only celebrate the musical tradition of burlesque music along its long evolution by performing music from 20′s jazz on through the lounge of the 50′s, Go-Go and Rockabilly of the 60′s and 70′s but also to continue this tradition today by creating original and relevant music for today’s burlesque performers.

What does modern burlesque sound like? It’s the 21st century. It can be anything! It can be built upon the more traditional genres or it can enter uncharted territory. All the while, its purpose is to serve as a positive celebration of beauty and desire with copious amounts of humor, sincerity and satire.
